Description
This is a five week in-person course. Whether you are a complete novice or someone looking to refine their drawing skills, this course offers an opportunity to dive into charcoal drawing and the fundamentals of visual art. We will focus on building a solid drawing foundation with charcoal, a versatile and expressive medium that lends itself to various drawing techniques. We will study shading and value, as well as composition and proportion.
Each class will be composed of a combination of teacher demonstrations and hands-on drawing time. Drawing from observation will equip you with the knowledge of proportion, and perspective while also nurturing your creativity. Throughout the course, you will engage in a wide array of drawing exercises, ranging from swift sketches to more time-intensive drawings that may span hours.
About the instructor: Cole is a painter and visual artist based in Portland Oregon. Nature is the biggest influence in Cole’s art especially now that natural disasters are ever increasing with climate change. Making observations, interpretations, and communicating the forms of nature that he thinks should be preserved and cherished is his goal. He wants to create excitement about preservation through visual interest by bringing the feelings and emotions associated in nature. Cole studied illustration at the Academy of Art in San Francisco and has a Bachelors of Arts in Art History from Portland State University.
